Infamous American singer, R. Kelly, has been handed down a 30yr jail sentence over sex crimes in a verdict reached today, Wednesday.
This much was revealed by the US Attorney’s office for the Eastern District of New York via a tweet.
“The verdict is in: R. Kelly has been sentenced to 30 years,” the tweet read.
The music hit maker had been on trial for recruiting and baiting underaged girls and women for sex.
Judge Ann Donnelly passed down the lengthy sentence in the Brooklyn Federal court.
In their sentencing memorandum, the federal prosecutors wrote, “His actions were brazen, manipulative, controlling and coercive.”
“He has shown no remorse or respect for the law,” they further remarked.
It will be recalled that in September last year, the embattled RnB star was found guilty on all nine charges slammed on him, including the most serious of them all–racketeering.
While the musician’s lawyers pleaded for a maximum of 17yrs jail sentence, the court thought otherwise.
In a little over a month’s time, R. Kelly will also appear before a Federal High Court in Chicago in a separate case wherein the singer and two of his former associates are alleged to have rigged the artiste’s pornography trial in 2008 and hid years of sexual abuse involving minors.
