Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, emerged as the Presidential Candidate for the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), in the early hours of Sunday.

Atiku secured the party’s President ticket with 371 votes from the 767 national delegates accredited for the poll.

Rivers Governor, Nyesom Wike followed in second place with 237 votes.

Former Senate President, Bukola Saraki came behind with 70 votes (3rd), while Udom Emmanuel, Bala Mohammed (4th), Pius Ayim (5th) and Sam Ohauabunwa (6th) followed suit with 38 votes, 20 votes, 14 votes and 1 vote respectively.

Sources, however, inform us that the result of the Primaries were not as straightforward as it seems.

We gathered that a coalition of Ex Military Heads of State, Presidents, Generals, Ex Northern Governors, Northern PDP Chieftains, as well as a former intelligence chief, all connived to deliver Atiku the Presidential ticket.

This follows behind the scenes activities that took place from Friday night leading up to Saturday Night.

Intelligence brought before the PDP Special National Convention indicated that Wike was not a man they could control or manipulate and could easily turn against the party’s directives if eventually becoming President.

The findings also revealed that the party’s opponent, the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), were also working for Wike behind the scenes as they felt he would be a candidate they could easily defeat at the General Elections.

Meanwhile, Wike, had spent money lavishly on party delegates and other power brokers in a bid to secure the Presidential Ticket.

Atiku’s backers realized that the plan of the Rivers Governor was to split up the northern votes between Sokoto Governor, Aminu Tambuwal and Atiku Abubakar.

This would, then, ensure a smooth victory for him at the Primaries.

In order to nullify Wike’s plans, Tambuwal was pressured into withdrawing from the Primaries.

Sources close to Tambuwal explain that the Governor did so at the last minute due to enormous pressure and subsequently instructed his delegates to channel their votes to Atiku.

With the North secured, Atiku combined both voting sides and prevailed over Wike.

Sources on the ground state that the moment Wike realized his loss at the Primaries was imminent, he left the grounds at once.
