The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has moved to rubbish talks of electoral malpractice in the recently concluded Ekiti Elections.
This much was expressed by the INEC National Electoral Commissioner for information and Voter Education, Mr Festus Okoye.
He said this on Monday morning while speaking to Arise news via a video interview.
“The election was transparent,” Okoye began.
“94% of the election results were already computed into the commission’s server in real time even before the final conclusion of the election,” he went on.
When asked by Arise Crew on the alleged votes buying by the ruling APC, as well as other reported sharp practices, the Commissioner explained that the Commission was not in charge of any security apparatus.
“No arrests were made and no investigations were carried out by the Security officers on ground,” he stated.
In his words, if arrests were made and investigations were carried out and subsequently reported to the Commission, then, they would have taken appropriate steps accordingly.
The Commissioner’s comments come in stark contrast to the allegations made by the Social Democratic Party in the state, who are seeking to challenge the election results in court.
According to the aggrieved party, the election result which saw APC’s Governorship candidate, Biodun Oyebanji, emerge victorious, was an “INEC victory” and not a “true reflection of the people’s choice.”
