The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), today, threatened Landlords with a 15yr jail term if they rent houses to internet Fraudsters.
This much was disclosed by the Commission ahead of its public conversation series dubbed, “ #EFCCConnect,” scheduled for Twitter Space on Wednesday (June 29).
The topic of the conversation has been titled, “Give your house to Yahoo boys, spend 15 years in jail.”
According to the Commission, its Deputy Director, Legal and Prosecution, Sylvanus Tahir and Assistant Director, Legal and Prosecution, Cosmos Ugwu will oversee the discuss.
This proclamation comes after months of the EFCC sensitizing real estate agents and landlords against enabling internet fraudsters and cyber crime specialists to occupy properties.
The question on the lips of many keen observers, however, borders on hoe these landlords and real estate agents could possibly know the true occupations of those they lease or sell properties to.
Since the Commission’s statement, social media has gone into a frenzy, with some lauding the move and many others criticizes the Commission’s stance.
