Brighton and Hove Albion defeated Manchester United 2-1 in their first English Premier League clash on Sunday afternoon.

A Pascal Gross double settled matters at Old Trafford as Erik Ten Hag (ETH) dropped his head at full-time.

The match saw Manchester United great, Cristiano Ronaldo begin the season from the bench despite an injury to ETH’s preferred striker in preseason, Anthony Martial.

Pascal Gross struck in the 30th minute of the game thanks to an assist by Danny Welbeck.

Gross was at it again 9minutes later as he banged in another strike to dampen the mood at Old Trafford.

The first half ended that way with Brighton taking a shock 0-2 lead.

ETH immediately brought in Ronaldo in the 53rd minute to salvage the situation.

United put pressure on Brighton for long spells and this paid dividends in the 68th minute as a corner kick into the Brighton penalty area was turned in by Alexis Mac Allister for an own goal.

The Video Assistant Referee (VAR) was required to ascertain if the goal will stand and they concurred with the referee’s original call.

Man Utd had 63% of the ball possession and looked threatening as they sought for the much needed equaliser to lift spirits in Manchester.

That goal never came and Brighton held on for the all important 3 points.
